2/28/2023 0 Comments Il TrovatoreAnother great night at the opera with my $4 seat!! I saw Il Trovatore! This time I was right in the middle at the top which was great!! The show was excellent and it was so nice getting out for a night of theater. I went out onto the balcony before the smokers and the view from the top floor is so pretty of the city!
I liked Aida better music wise, but they definitely spent more money on the sets for this show!! The two leads were the same from Aida and they are just so amazing!!

2/21/2023 1 Comment Shrove tuesday in serbiaBig shoutout to my mom and dad for coordinating to have some pancakes and deserts for Shrove Tuesday. I always loved going to the pancake night at St. Johns and waitressing as a little kid. I miss my St. Johns family, so it's fun being connected to the church this way. My pancakes are yummy and delicious with my Greys Anatomy on. I know it's only lunchtime for yal, but enjoy your pancakes tonight!! Maybe give a shot at this fried pancake with ham, sour cream and cheese. Maybe even get some plasma with it hahha, we can't figure out what they were trying to translate this word to!
2/18/2023 1 Comment A night at the operaMy first Opera was Aida!! It was so beautiful and breathtaking (and long) and just so good. It was a lot of fun going out solo on the town and getting back to the theater! My ticket was only $4 so I expect to be back there a lot!!!!! I didn’t get a program sadly cause you had to buy them in cash, but they were all in Serbian anyway. Also for the Opera, it is in Italian, so the subtitles they had at the top were Serbian. So I just really relied on knowing the story and focuses on the musical cues. The orchestra and leads were just breathtaking. It was such a beautiful show! I can’t wait to go see more shows!
2/16/2023 0 Comments Statehood National HolidayOn February 15/16th it is Statehood Day in Serbia! Aka we have the days off!! At first we weren’t sure how much would be open as it was a state holiday, turns out everything was open except corporate people. The main shopping street became crazy busy! We learned a lot of people take the Friday off too and will travel around to the local countries for a (very) long weekend. We unfortunately had class on Friday, but it was a nice way to settle in and have more days to explore the city.
2/13/2023 0 Comments Bookstore streetWhat’s my favorite part of the city so far? There’s a strip in one of the major shops area that has about 10 different bookstores!!!!!! And oh man it was a STRUGGLE not buying books…which I only bought 1 so I think that’s impressive. It’s funny going to bookstores where the ‘foreign language’ section is the English book section! It’s very strange lol, and most of them are all booktok tables with the popular TikTok books.
2/10/2023 0 Comments Meet the professorsToday was a nice day as we got to meet all of our professors for the semester. We started in the classroom giving our introductions and goals for the semester. Afterwards we went out for lunch and got to mingle. They feel a lot like professor relationships like Elon. I’m most excited for our International Human Rights and Refugee Law course this semester!! The professors are all generally young, and we had a ton of fun at lunch chatting about random things, travel, things to know about Serbia, etc. I am so excited for this semester!!
2/9/2023 0 Comments Belgrade drop-offToday was our practice drop-off in the city to get to know more about where we are living the next few months! We were given a map and a set of locations that we were supposed to stop by and discuss afterwards. We had three hours to stop by the locations and grab lunch. Brittany and I headed off and had a really nice walk around the city. We stopped by a few churches, the large park, a mall, and one of the large squares with tons of shopping. We stopped for lunch at the Little Bay that is right by the Opera House, and is set up like an opera house! It was gorgeous inside and the food was incredible!! I got a quick glass of wine with our meal and it too was very good. Overall we had a lot of fun and enjoyed our little adventure. 2/8/2023 0 Comments Harry Potter RoomOur first temporary apartment was very cute! There were two bedrooms, one large…and one tiny. We flipped a coin, and I was in the small room. I felt like Harry Potter in his closet, able to stretch and reach all sides at once haha. But honestly, I slept really well and enjoyed my little hole for the time we were there.
2/6/2023 0 Comments Arriving in BelgradeWow flying in today was very stressful. It was hailing and some crazy winter storms in Istanbul when we had to fly out. Unfortunately there was the terrible earthquake that morning as well on the border in Turkey and Syria. The news and storm made the day very stressful and a sad way to leave Turkey. Thankfully the flight went smoothly and we arrived late at night into Belgrade. We got to the hotel and Brittany and I were reunited! We all decided to go out and grab dinner and a drink to celebrate. It was a nice way to start our semester in Serbia.
