2/2/2023 0 Comments Art TherapyToday we had Art Therapy! We had this session to first learn about how art therapy can help others and their practices on assisting refugees. Then they led us through an abridged version of a session. We started with some guided meditation, then went outside and did some funny walking and running around playing different scenarios. After we came back into the room and sat down where they did some visualizations with us. We were to picture a cup or a jar, anything that can hold something. Then think of what goes into it, is it our emotions, it our a thing, an experience? Next we had 20 minutes to draw or paint what we pictured. After we put them up on the wall, and they asked us questions about the pictures, what the cups are, what kind of material are they made of, where we pictured the cup, etc. This was a very short version of what one of their sessions include. Also, they run their sessions in a series over about 40 weeks where they track peoples progress and the types of art they draw. It’s a very cool technique for therapy, especially where there may be language or educational barriers that may hinder therapy sessions.
You can guess which one is mine in the comments haha
